Overheard In LA: 6 Industry PRos on Celebrating Wins

On the very last day of February, we gathered in Los Angeles for another edition of our “Coffee with Publicists,” a morning coffee hour where our Pitch Posse (our community of sharp publicists) meet and swap ideas.

While there, we asked them, “How do you celebrate a major win, like a big client placement or successful media event?”

Below are the unique ways six PR professionals celebrate wins:

6 PR pros on how they celebrate wins

For many, a client win is never a solo endeavor. Celebrating a win with everyone on the team who made it possible is important. Ava D'Ambrosio, Account Executive at Stanton & Company, points out that PR is often a team sport.

“We really celebrate as a team. Every Monday, we do a round of what we’re grateful for and cheer our wins together. PR is such a team sport.”

Brooke Cashin, Account Supervisor at Stanton & Company, also agrees with Ava.

“It absolutely is a team effort, but we also get drinks over at the bar across the street. It’s nothing extravagant, but it’s intimate and reminds all of us that we’re in this as a team, like Ava said.”

Jessica Abercrombie, Vice President of Public Relations at Relevance International, loves to celebrate together with her team over drinks.

“I take my team out! Martinis with my team is our choice. I like mine slightly dirty with gin. Our team is based in LA and NYC, and in LA, we’re right off of Sunset Blvd, so we have many options.”

It can be easy to get sucked into the daily grind, so reminding yourself to celebrate the big and small wins is important. Sometimes, it’s nice to celebrate a win solo. Eric Glaser, Senior Account Manager at Sparkpr, likes to celebrate with the things that spark joy, like traveling.

“But truly: I reward myself with travel. Since I can work remote, especially after COVID, I’ve lived in Costa Rica, Europe, New York and other places around the world.”

Celebrating yourself doesn’t have to be a grand gesture like traveling the globe. Sometimes it can be something small, like indulging in your favorite foods or activities, like Jonathan Lara, Account Associate at MPRM Communications.

“I need to celebrate more, in fact! I like to treat myself to a little lunch when I have a win. I love pasta and pizza. On occasion, and since I work in the film industry, I’ll also take myself to the movies as a treat.”

PR pros aren’t the only ones who find ways to celebrate their hard work. Alex Stedman, News Editor at IGN Entertainment, emphasized how rest can be a powerful reward for hard work.

“Honestly, I take a half day off to walk my dog, Harley. I like to work smarter, not harder.”
