Pitches That Placed: How to Pitch Insider

Written by OnePitch | Sep 28, 2022 7:05:00 AM

On this week’s Pitches That Placed, we are highlighting a pitch that placed in Insider due to their intro to a CEO as a future resource for stories. Insider has over 157m+ followers on social media, 1.5b+ video views, and 73m+ unique viewers. Let’s see why this pitch worked:

Let’s take a look at the actual pitch that placed:

Subject line: Resource for you on Super Bowl + AR metaverse

Hi ___,

This Sunday, you'll see more and more brands venture into augmented reality (AR) with Super Bowl commercials (see ad promos for Kia here and Nissan here).

But beyond commercials, imagine the future of the actual Super Bowl in the AR metaverse: live-action replays that happen in your living room, close enough to see the players sweat; Al Michaels sitting on your sofa; and Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem performing the half-time show right in front of your family and friends.

But without the technical infrastructure to share these AR experiences in precise ways, the communal experience of the Super Bowl will be punctuated by moments of isolation due to a lack of standards for shared positioning. No two people can experience AR objects and environments in the same way – something as simple as playing catch with a virtual ball is impossible.

So, how do we establish a common framework that allows our family, friends, and fellow fans to truly share the AR metaverse?

___-- AR expert, behavioral engineer, military veteran and CEO of ___ -- says it starts with location. That's why, at ___, is building advanced peer-to-peer positioning technology and cloud infrastructure that will allow AR experiences to be truly shared

    • Most people in the world today walk around with GPS-enabled devices that tell them approximately where they are. But GPS can’t support shared AR experiences -- it can’t tell if someone is upstairs in their living room, downstairs in their kitchen, standing at the center of the room, or in the corner.
    • A real-world example of this problem is Pokemon Go, one of the earliest large-scale implementations of AR technology. It invites users everywhere to hunt for Pokemon in “real life”. But because it relies on GPS for location, gameplay differs – sometimes radically – from user to user.

Without infrastructure that supports shared location, there can be no shareable metaverse.

Any interest in speaking to ___ about how we’ll experience future Super Bowls and like-events – or get his perspective on any other AR-related topics? I’d love to schedule an intro call with ___ to see if he could be a resource for you on stories.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Our PR bestie explains why it worked:

  • “We found the right target. The reporter’s coverage at Business Insider was well-aligned with the type of innovative tech product and announcement our client had to offer.”
  • “Timing was perfect. With the initial pitch delivered just before Super Bowl weekend, coupled with a follow-up message the day after the game, the tie-in with a popular national event was head-turning.”
  • “The pitch body was well-crafted. Although a bit longer than our typical pitches, we began with a cultural event hook, connecting that to an industry problem, and finishing with our client and his solution. Plus, we utilized relevant links, bullets, bold, and italics to make the text easier to skim and process.”
